Tom Ford Cologne - Amber Absolute Eau De Parfum (2007)

Amber Absolute - Eau De Parfum

Fragrance Notes
Top Notes: Frankincense
Heart Notes: Amber, Woody notes
Base Notes: Labdanum, Vanilla

Amber Absolute starts the show with an unbelievable frankincense opening, dense, gentle and smoky. At the heart, notes of amber and woods wiggle their way in. This fragrance truly develops into one of the best amber scents available. Amber Absolute has a fabulous burnt caramel accord that dominates the heart of this fragrance and is warm, smooth and inviting. The vanilla base is slightly sweet and very pleasing, giving Amber Absolute a creamy richness without being overly sweet or heady. The addition of Labdanum assists in balancing this fragrance, but not in the typical powdery finish. It is more luxurious and plays more of a supporting role for the dense amber structure. This is truly a opulent concoction.

A little goes a long way with Amber Absolute. Sillage is very good and longevity is amazing. This fragrance can still be going strong well over 15 hours after application. Like a fine wine, Amber Absolute only gets better with time. Please don't make any hasty decisions within the first hour or so. This fragrance needs time to develop for a full appreciation of its complexity. If you are a true lover of amber, this is a fragrance that you shouldn't live without.

Tom Ford Cologne - Oud Wood Eau De Parfum (2007)

Oud Wood Eau De Parfum

Fragrance Notes
Top Notes: Cardamom, Rosewood, Pepper
Heart Notes: Oud, Sandalwood, Vetiver
Base Notes: Amber, Tonka bean, Vanilla

I have to express my love for Oud wood which stands out on its own as something which I believe is incredibly sexual and conjured up images of Eroticism and Passion.

The initial spray on to my skin is a very creamy oud which is unexpected because I was expecting something harsh and very masculine, I was expecting something very spicy and very "hard" but instead it seems as though the Oud and vanilla have created a marriage which has resulted in the Oud transforming into something very creamy, as if it were literally dripping vanilla. Rosewood, Tonka and Pepper further heighten the fragrance offering something a bit more complex and a lot more "adult". Oud Wood isn't the most original scent but it wins points with its incredible and unashamed sexiness and its fantastic lasting power.

This fragrance is a testament to what I love so much about fragrances, because it communicates with me not only through my nose but through my emotions. I can’t help but feel like a naughty school boy all over again when I wear this. It makes me want to be mischievous, it makes me want to be passionate, and it makes me want to be physical. Whilst I believe that some of Tom ford's scents are severely over-priced. Oud Wood is worth every single penny.

Tom Ford Cologne - Tobacco Vanille Eau De Parfum (2007)

Starting off with the best of the bunch!

Fragrance Notes
Top Notes: Aromatic notes, Spices
Heart Notes: Tobacco, Tobacco leaf, Tobacco blossom, Tonka bean
Base Notes: Wood juice, Cocoa, Dry fruits, Vanilla

Tobacco Vanille is described as, “A modern take on an old-world men's club. A smooth oriental, Tobacco Vanille opens immediately with opulent essences of tobacco leaf and aromatic spice notes. The heart unfolds with creamy tonka bean, tobacco flower, vanilla and cocoa, and finishes with a dry fruit accord enriched with sweet wood sap.”

One moment, Tobacco Vanille strikes me with its punch of ‘good old country living’, but in a type of blow that is quickly unsettled by a conflagration of tobacco leaves fastidiously dunked in the finest (and thickest) of vanilla syrups. In mere moments, I envision myself seated around a campfire toasting marshmallows, but in a campsite closed in by the same urban jungle that had made Tobacco Vanille such a suave and gourmand blend. Proving itself to be greatly dissimilar to countrified living once again, Tobacco Vanille has a point to make, and though this point is perhaps unremittingly dense, the point is made with great haste.

Tobacco Vanille’s two powerhouse ingredients unite to bring about a robust, authoritative, and dominant chord, sending one through a rayless and humid tobacco cellar, only to turn up in the warm and vanilla laden tract of cherries, prunes, and figs. The entire journey almost seems to be a moist one, and it is difficult to descry any smoke apart from the initial flare-up. For this reason, one may be led to believe that this is a year-round fragrance, but it quickly transforms into something tremendously synthetic when any heat is applied. Living in Scottsdale, I find that this scent sits on the shelf day after day. But when the weather starts getting colder, I am eager to grab for this honey-colored brew. If you choose to purchase Tobacco Vanille, go for the smallest bottle offered, and still be prepared to have it a part of your fragrance collection for decades to come.
